One of the many benefits of electronic health record systems is they can help healthcare providers capture and compare patient information to gain a deeper understanding of health trends within certain populations and communities.
In a recent Health IT Buzz blog post, Kerry Souza and Michael Wittie explained that adding information about a patient's work history can help doctors understand more about them and make better treatment decisions.
As the authors pointed out, people spend more than half their waking hours at work, and understanding how and where patients are spending that time can lead to more informed medical care.
